My sisters, Mom, Dad, Great Aunt Elda, and Great Uncle Earl piled into Grandma's kitchen, Grandma served the pot roast on a huge silver platter, ladling pearl onions, sliced carrots, potatoes, and gravy around the roast. Grandma's fried cauliflower, a huge bowl of fluffy mashed potatoes, and a dish of candied sweet potatoes (just because I loved them so much) found their place on the table. Piping hot buns and creamy butter came out last but were eaten first.
We laughed and exhanged pleasantries while we passed dishes around the big wooden table or spooned portions for each other if the dishes were too hot or too big to pass. The catch-up chatter filled the air until each plate steamed with perfectly perfect food. Then silence....Everyone was too busy eating Grandma's delicious dinner to talk.
