Dear Mr. Turkey

                                         Dear Mr. Turkey,

Please refrain from eating our seed. We have enough trouble with
those pesky squirrels. We realize that technically you are a bird,
but let’s face it, you are not like us. Your raspy “gobble-gobble” cannot
compete with the sweet sounds of our songs. You cannot soar beneath
a bright blue sky or gently perch on the outstretched arm of our cherry tree.

And by the way, are you lost? Look around. This property is not a farm.
There are no chickens or goats or cows. This is the backyard of a house
in a neighborhood, not a pasture.

Please don't misunderstand. We do not want to seem unwelcoming. We are
simply looking out for your happiness. Hopefully you will find your way home
soon. Until then, please look for food elsewhere.

                                       Thank you kindly,
                                       The Birds

Turkeys show up in my yard from time to time. Aren't they strange looking birds? Hope they leave your bird food alone!

I can't believe you have a turkey in your backyard! I'm not sure what I would think if one was in mine since I live in suburbia, but I'm sure your birds would definitely like him to leave!!

Love this shot!!! I have a photo of 3 turkeys perched on my back fence like cardinals. I live in a fairly urban area and we have tons of turkeys. The audubon society hosted workshops in our neighborhood about "making good neighbors" for the turkeys. Some are aggressive - they follow people walking home from the train at night. I never really thought about them eating bird food... but they are birds! Thanks for the smile today.

I love this - could be a RAFT assignment - great model for students! The piece comes to life because it is written in the voice of the birds and the intended audience is the turkey. So much fun! I laughed and shared with my husband. Great photo! I just love reading your posts!

Even though the turkey is a bit of a nuisance, it is rather cool to find one in your backyard. What a fun way to write your post today! Sometimes another voice is meant to be heard, rather than our own.

Love the pic! Love how you gave the birds a voice! It's funny how the turkey was eating the bird seed! Never saw that before!

I like that this letter was written by the birds. I had never seen a wild turkey until we moved to the valley. They have not invaded our yard yet, but keep to the mountain.

What a great photo. Writing a letter to the turkey to accompany it was the perfect choice.

I love this. I have that issue with squirrels. This was such a nice, concise, fun read. Love it!

I love this, Rose. From the point of view of the birds. Just the right tone and just the right words.
