Full House

It was different, going to sleep with all that new breathing in the house.
-from The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant

There is a lot of extra breathing in our house this quiet morning. Brian, Jane, Ann, Piper, and Nisha have come to visit, so with five adults and three big dogs we have stretched the limits of available space. The dogs, of course, were up first, let out, and fed. Now it’s back to bed for everyone…but me. I love this quiet moment.

Time to think.

Time to wonder.

Time to write.

Time to be thankful.

Soon everyone will be up and we will be back to laughing, reminiscing, and basking in the joy of all being together.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Rose,
So much elegance in Cynthia's book! Thanks for this post! No extra breathing at our house and now that I've alleviated my stress over the time change, it's a pleasure to enjoy the quiet!

Love how you started with the Cynthia Rylant quote, Rosie. So perfect for this piece. I love early morning, too. Especially loved the purposeful fragments - a wonderful list! Enjoy this day!

One of my favorite lines of all time!!!! Love your post today - so much joy!! I love when we all squish under one roof together - some of my best memories of childhood and parenting. Can't wait to read about some of the slices from the weekend.

Rose, I have been awake from about 1:00 - 2:00 these last two nights. Although I get nothing done, I do enjoy the quiet of the house.

Extra breathing in the house...That made me think of when my grandkids stay all night. Love this post and your comments about early morning. It is my favorite time of day!

There's nothing like having the ones you love close and home. Enjoy the silence and enjoy the commotion. They are both a blessing.
