Goodbye, January!

January, 2016 – I was ready! After a wonderful season of celebrations, I was feeling the need to get balance back in my life – a little bit of work and play every day, healthy eating and exercise, maybe some work toward the goals I set for the year. I even chose “balance” as my One Little Word for 2016. But one small movement toward the end of the first week sidelined me for the rest of the month. I stood up, felt the ping, and knew the back injury I had sustained in January, 2015 was revisiting me. It’s a common ailment – a bulging disk pressing on a nerve – that makes standing and walking extremely painful. I knew what to do, I knew who to see, so I started the slow road to recovery (although I am not quite there yet). But I also started to feel sorry for myself, watching all my best laid plans for getting back on track in January slip me by. Poor me!

But as I felt a bit of depression creeping in, I was reminded that my problem was minor compared to some. Within a few weeks I learned that a good friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer again (something she thought she had beaten years ago), three friends as well as my sister were dealing with major health problems in their family, and two other friends experienced the heartbreaking loss of their mothers. I could envision all the prayers circling the stars, trying hard to penetrate the dark cloud that seemed to be hovering in my world. And that’s when I knew I could put the balance back in my life. I just had to find the right perspective. Everyone experiences problems in life, but we have to rise above, keep praying, keep moving forward, and put things in perspective.

So good-bye January! May February bring a rainbow of health and happiness to everyone!

Rose, I hope your recovery is quick. So often it seems that many bad things happen all at once. Maybe it is a way to keep us grounded. I hope February is a much better month for you.

Based on my own analyzation, January wasn't really a friendly month for you but I am so happy that you overcome it! Well, all of us are set to experience such dark moments in our lives, but those should never knock us down. Perhaps, it may be God's way of challenging us and telling us how powerful we really are. I've been there too, but I am happy that I was able to overcome all the stress I have experienced before. it was never easy, but it was worth it!

Thanks for the perspective check. Circumstances scramble, timelines change, needs shift, but one may still choose to keep one's eyes steadfast on the prize.

Sad to say I've been there. So many of us have been there and we can only send you warm, gentle vibes to feel better, heal as fast as humanly possible and hope the sun keeps shining of you.
We are with you Rose,
Bonnie

Oh that ping! Never a good thing, but I'm glad you knew what to do. Taking stock of our lives makes us appreciate our own ups and downs when we learn of troubles in others lives. Hope February is full of hearts and sunshine.

I could envision all the prayers circling the stars, trying hard to penetrate the dark cloud that seemed to be hovering in my world.

What a wonderful sentence! Adding my prayers for all you mentioned.

So sorry that January was a tough month. The days are getting longer and the sun will shine a bit more. It is one step at a time. I was there last year - with a loss of a family member and a broken bone. I know - go slow and easy but spring will come and spirits will lighten. Look for smiles and good thoughts each day. Sending you good thoughts!

Not a downer at all -- you ended inspiring us to look at the bright side and embrace the life we are living! Seems like great advice to me --here's to February! Hope you are feeling better
